About Spelaea
Spelaea takes its name from the ancient Greek σπήλαιον, meaning "cave". It is also the epithet of the cave lion — Panthera spelaea — the animal that the artists of Chauvet painted 36,000 years ago on rock. In that gesture there is something that reminds us of who we are: beings who once sought refuge in the earth, who looked at nature with wonder rather than distance, and who today, amid screens and noise, still long to return to it.
This project is born from that restlessness — from what E.O. Wilson called biophilia: the deep and instinctive bond that ties us to the living world. From the need to reconnect with the essential, to observe nature not as a foreign backdrop, but as an extension of our own history.
Spelaea blends natural history, photography and reflection. It is a space to speak about natural heritage, human nature and how to look at the world again with respect and curiosity. A place where science, art and philosophy meet to remind us that, perhaps, returning to nature is returning to understanding ourselves.
About me
Behind Spelaea there is a wildlife photographer who has spent more than five years traversing mountains, coastlines and forests with a camera over his shoulder and one idea in mind: to tell stories that bring us back to the wild. Passionate about nature, philosophy and the way both intersect in how we live, I observe the world with a mix of scientific curiosity and childlike wonder.
I do not seek to portray only animals or landscapes, but the feeling of belonging to something greater — of being part of a balance we are only beginning to rediscover.
